CARNAUBA WAX is a natural vegetable wax obtained from the leaves of the Copernicia prunifera palm tree native to Brazil. It is a hard, brittle, light-yellow to brown wax known for its high melting point (around 80–85°C) and excellent gloss properties. Carnauba wax is composed mainly of esters, fatty alcohols, acids, and hydrocarbons, giving it superior hardness, water resistance, and film-forming abilities. It is often referred to as the “Queen of Waxes.”
APPLICATIONS:
1. PHARMACEUTICALS:
Carnauba wax is used as a polishing and coating agent for tablets and capsules, providing a smooth, glossy, and protective finish. It improves product appearance, prevents moisture absorption, and enhances stability.
2. FOOD APPLICATIONS:
Used as a food-grade glazing and coating agent (E903) in confectionery, chewing gum, bakery goods, and fruits to provide shine and moisture resistance. It is also used in food packaging for its protective and glossy properties.
3. COSMETICS & PERSONAL CARE:
Carnauba wax serves as a thickener, film-former, and emollient in lipsticks, mascaras, creams, lotions, and hair care products. It imparts structure, shine, and smooth texture to formulations.
4. INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS:
It is used in polishes, automotive waxes, furniture finishes, and coatings due to its hardness, gloss, and durability. It also improves the abrasion resistance and water repellence of surfaces.
