BEESWAX is a natural wax secreted by honeybees (Apis mellifera) to build honeycombs. It is a pale yellow to golden solid with a mild honey-like odor and a melting point of about 62–65°C. Chemically, it is a complex mixture of esters, fatty acids, and long-chain alcohols. Beeswax is non-toxic, hydrophobic, and provides excellent plasticity, stability, and water-repellent properties, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial and pharmaceutical applications.
APPLICATIONS:
1. PHARMACEUTICALS:
Beeswax is used as a base, thickener, and coating agent in ointments, creams, balms, and tablet coatings. It provides consistency, improves stability, and forms protective barriers on the skin or dosage forms. It is also used in sustained-release formulations due to its hydrophobic nature.
2. FOOD APPLICATIONS:
Approved as a food-grade glazing agent (E901), beeswax is used for coating confectionery, fruits, and bakery products to provide shine and moisture protection. It also serves as a release agent and stabilizer in certain food formulations.
3. COSMETICS & PERSONAL CARE:
Widely used in lip balms, lotions, creams, mascaras, and hair products for its emollient, thickening, and film-forming properties. Beeswax gives texture, enhances moisture retention, and imparts a natural gloss to cosmetic products.
3. INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS:
Used in polishes, candles, lubricants, and coatings for its smoothness, gloss, and protective qualities. It improves texture and durability in wood and leather polishes and provides a clean, slow burn in candles.
